VERY GOOD: This book is in very good condition, showing slight shelf wear on the corners. The pages are free of writing and were printed on acid-free paper.Product Details
From the Preface: "The emphasis is placed instead on the extraordinary power and flexibility of Fourier's basic series and integrals and on the astonishing variety of applications in which it is the chief tool. ..."Prerequisites: The level of preparation expected is a thorough knowledge of advanced calculus. Courant-John [1965] would be ideal. To this must be added a willingness to believe in (or to study up on) the Lebesgue integral, as outlined in 1.1. A smattering of complex function theory and groups would be helpful, though what is needed is explained (with proofs) in 3.1 and 4.1, respectively. A little physics would be nice too. Feynman [1963-1965] would be the ideal, but an attempt has been made to sketch everything needed in that line. The most important thing you bring to this study is a real interest in applications and in the interconnections of different parts of mathematics."
