Condition

GOOD: There is some curling and wear on the corners, but overall this book is in good condition. There are only a few pencil marks on some of the pages (we saw only 1 page with marks, but there may be more as this is a large volume of over 1611 pages). Some of the pages have curling and have been folded down, but they remain clean and readable. The top and bottom edges of the pages have been stamped with "AHC Used" (see images). Since this copy is used, it did not come with a printed access card for English21, a website where you can get support for every step of the writing process, but you can purchase this access separately. There are several blank end pages at the back of the book that could be used for keeping notes.

Other features of this edition (as described on the back cover):

  • More opportunities to analyze and produce argumentative writing throughout, including new "Write an Argument" questions and assignments, as well as a new chapter on literary arguments.
  • Additional stories, poems, plays, and essays. Over 30 percent of the literature in Legacies is new to this edition, including an excerpt from a graphic novel in every anthology chapter.
  • Reading selections organized both by genre and by intriguing themes—including new topics such as "The Elusive Sexual Self," "Terror and Terrorism," and "The Human Animal." Crossing the Genres clusters open each thematic chapter, tying readings from each genre together through questions and writing assignments.
  • New reading clusters that allow you to explore a theme in depth while focusing on a single genre, such as Modern Love/Fiction and The Ideal vs. The Real World/Poetry.
  • New essays on controversial topics are paired to stimulate argumentative thinking, writing, and debate. These include "The Nuclear Family Redefined!" and "Visions of the Spirit."
  • New online literature and contextual information for each theme.
  • A new appendix on Visual Rhetoric that helps you read, analyze, and write about visuals such as paintings, websites, and graphic literature.
  • Practical information on the research process and documentation, including the use of online resources.
This volume is used mostly in Freshman English courses in college.
