This collection of biographies is from
Famous Men of Rome published in 1904, which the Shearers of Greenleaf Press have revised, edited, updated, and reprinted. They have also written a guide for its study.
The preface to the 1904 edition states: "It has been the aim of the author to make an interesting story of each man's life and to tell these stories in a style so simple that pupils in the lower grades will read them with pleasure, and so dignified that they may be used with profit as textbooks for reading."
The study guide includes vocabulary, pronunciation guides, and discussion questions for each chapter and suggests a number of supplemental readings from other books:
