This is a quality Dover Publications coloring book with detailed coloring pages by John Green. There is a map and 41 black-and-white line illustrations (including 4 double-page spreads) and there are full-color illustrations on the covers.
Each drawing has captions that give details about the Greek culture, written by Stanley Appelbaum, making each coloring page a history lesson. There are several centuries’ worth of history, so the author has made divisions:
- Athenian history from roughly 550 to 450 B.C.
- Home life and private amusements in 5th-century Athens
- Public life and duties of citizens
- Occupations
- Public religious activities, oracles and Olympian games
- Athenian history from 450 to 400 B.C.
- Greek philosophy and Athenian history from 400 to 300 B.C.
NOTE: There are a few drawings of nude male athletes, but genitalia are not in view.
