## Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces (Hardback)"Although there is enough material in the book for a full-year course (or a topics course), we tried to make the book suitable for a first course on differential geometry for students with some background in linear algebra and advanced calculus." — From "Some Remarks on Using This Book" (page vii) ## $67.59 |

## Description

From the “Preface”: “This book is an introduction to the differential geometry of curves and surfaces, both in its local and global aspects. The presentation differs from the traditional ones by a more extensive use of elementary linear algebra and by a certain emphasis placed on basic geometrical facts, rather than on machinery or random details. …

“To maintain the proper balance between ideas and facts, we have presented a large number of examples that are computed in detail. Furthermore, a reasonable supply of exercises is provided. Some factual material of classical differential geometry found its place in these exercises. Hints of answers are given for the exercises that are starred.

“The prerequisites for reading this book are linear algebra and calculus.

#### Classical Mechanics: Theory and Mathematical Modeling (Hardcover)

$49.95

"Classical mechanics is a chief example of the scientific method organizing a 'complex' collection of information into theoretically rigorous, unifying principles; in this sense, mechanics represents one of the highest forms of mathematical modeling. This textbook covers standard topics of a mechanics course, namely, the mechanics of rigid bodies, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalism, stability and small oscillations, an introduction to celestial mechanics, and Hamilton-Jacobi theory, but at the same time features unique examples—such as the spinning top including friction and gyroscopic compass—seldom appearing in this context. In addition, variational principles like Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics are treated in great detail." — From the back cover

$47.49

"In a manner accessible to beginning undergraduates,

*An Invitation to Modern Number Theory*introduces many of the central problems, conjectures, results, and techniques of the field, such as the Riemann Hypothesis, Roth's Theorem, the Circle Method, and Random Matrix Theory." — From the back cover#### Interior Point Methods for Linear Optimization, Second Edition (Hardback)

$46.59

"Linear Optimization (LO) is one of the most widely applied and taught techniques in mathematics, with applications in many areas of science, commerce and industry. The dramatically increased interest in the subject is due mainly to advances in computer technology and the development of Interior Point Methods (IPMs) for LO." — From the back cover

#### Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics: Vector Analysis (Hardback)

$27.95

"Classical vector analysis deals with vector fields; the gradient, divergence, and curl operators; line, surface, and volume integrals; and the integral theorems of Gauss, Green, and Stokes. Modern vector analysis distills these into the Cartan calculus and a general form of Stokes's theorem. This essentially modern text carefully develops vector analysis on manifolds, reinterprets it from the classical viewpoint (and with the classical notation) for three-dimensional Euclidean space, and then goes on to introduce de Rham cohomology and Hodge theory." — From the back cover

"This book would make an excellent text for a basic undergraduate mathematics or geography course and would be especially appealing to the teacher who is interested in exciting visual applications in the classroom. It would also serve nicely as supplementary reading for a course in calculus, linear algebra, or differential geometry. Prerequisites include a strong grasp of trigonometry and basic calculus." — From the back cover
