Product Details
From the author’s Acknowledgments: “My chief goals here are to present a readable history of the War of 1812, place it in the context of America’s development as a nation, and emphasize its importance as a foundation of America’s subsequent westward expansion. Though frequently overlooked between the Revolution and Civil War, the War of 1812 did indeed span half a continent—from Mackinac Island to New Orleans and Lake Champlain to Horseshoe Bend—and it set the stage for the conquest of the continent’s other half.”
The book contains black and white maps, portraits, and photos of paintings.
“About the Arthur” and “About the Book” sections follow the history. In the “About the Book” section, there are articles entitled “What About Canada?,” “The ‘Extras’ File,” “…And Don’t Forget the Upcoming Bicentennial Celebrations.” There is also a list of web addresses you can visit to give you more information about the War of 1812.
